Dr. Leana Wen appeared on WBAL-TV 11 Baltimore on Sunday, October 15 to discuss how BCHD is working to decrease health disparities in Baltimore.

"We must stop talking about the rhetoric of choice. We say that a person chose not to eat well, but this choice is predicated on privilege…A goal of public health is to understand that poverty is related to health and that we have to level the playing field of inequality.”

When I’ve asked experts about these approaches, it’s not that any of them are bad. It’s that they fall short. For instance, Leana Wen, the former health commissioner of Baltimore (and soon-to-be president of Planned Parenthood), said that the Support for Patients and Communities Act “is simply tinkering around the edges.”
