BALTIMORE, MD (December 21, 2016)—On Tuesday December 20th, the Baltimore City Health Department was alerted to a Facebook post claiming to identify a skinned animal potentially being delivered to a restaurant.

Following an immediate investigation by Baltimore City Health Department’s Environmental Health inspection team, staff confirmed that the animal in question was a goat delivered to International Grocery & Halal Inc. at 3314 Greenmount Ave, 21218.

In total six and half skinned animals (three goats, three lambs & a half of veal) were identified on site and all of the products were discarded due to possible contamination during transport and delivery. 

Under COMAR 10.15.03, facilities may only accept foods that are properly protected during transportation and delivery.

Baltimore City Health Department then performed a complete inspection of the facility, which uncovered one other critical violation: chicken out-of-temperature (which was also discarded) as well as nine minor violations.  

Baltimore City Health Department representatives contacted the USDA inspector assigned to the facility to confirm details regarding transportation.

The International Grocery & Halal Inc. has been permitted to remain open. Follow up will be conducted regarding the minor violations.
