Baltimore's infant mortality efforts at work in poorest neighborhoods: Saving the Smallest

At 6 p.m. on a soupy Tuesday in July, the Druid Hill Family Center Y is bustling. The door under its red awning swings open and shut every few minutes as mothers trail lines of small children inside, and clutches of women in leggings enter in bursts of noise and color.
Less than a half-mile away, about 80 boys run football drills in Robert C. Marshall Park. It's 87 degrees and most are shirtless and wear brightly colored athletic shorts so baggy they brush their calves.
